♣ Sherlock & What Happened in the Darkened Swimming Pool

Sherlock is never merely about solving cool crime in cool ways.

I wish I had known that from the start --from the moment my friend urged me to check on this BBC's modern take of Arthur Conan Doyle's legendary fictional detective story. Well, in a way, it is about solving cool crime in cool ways because, come on, it is Sherlock Holmes and what is not cool about him, right? But there are so much more than that. And if only I had realized this, I wouldn't have been so caught up in picking every little detail on the technical way of solving a case, one clue leading to another clue, or being trapped in the whodunit scheme that in the end only leads to the not-so-plausible reveal (I'm talking about the disappointing reveal of the cabbie and the oh-so-unthreatening Black Lotus).

Yes, it literally took an entire first series to get me hooked. And it's not only because Moriarty in The Great Game is a lot more interesting criminal mind, but also because this episode kind of wakes me up. Suddenly I felt like I'd only been sleep-watching it all this time. What happened in The Great Game? John Watson happened.

It's what John did in the "darkened swimming pool". Against Moriarty, John offered his own life to save Sherlock's. His action not only shocked Sherlock himself but also shocked me. Up to this point I saw Sherlock as being annoying, irritating, a bad person who is selfish, doesn't care about anybody else and has been treating John like a doormat. But how could John, a man with high standard of morality, be willing to die for someone like Sherlock? What. Do. I. Miss?

As the series continued and their "relationship" became more and more interesting with each episode, I still couldn't exactly figure it out when I finally finished second series and I asked my friend (still the same friend I mentioned earlier), why is John sooo emotionally dependent on Sherlock? He obviously has better social skill, he can make friends easily, WHY does he NEED Sherlock?

Of course my friend is so nice, she bothered providing me with such a very diplomatic answer. But now that I look at it again, my question itself is slightly misleading. See, John barely had friends when we met him in A Study in Pink so I doubt that my statement is even right. He obviously doesn't get along with just anyone. There is obviously something. Something not too obvious that makes our war vet John Watson decide to not only befriend the peculiar Sherlock Homes but also to basically devote his life to him.

But why? W. H. Y.

I am not going to explain anything here, though. I just want to point out about what I said in the beginning that Sherlock is never just a detective story. It is a very interesting look at human personality and its complexity. It is about how two men with their different  --even opposite-- personalities can form a solid, endearing friendship we possibly can only imagine we have. It is how an introverted-sensing John and an introverted-thinking Sherlock can function as a complement to each other. Like an actual soul mate. Seriously, someone has done this Myers-Briggs analysis on them and I think whoever wonders why John is so attached to Sherlock and vice versa should definitely read it here. In short, they are attached to each other because they can give what the other one needs and because of this they are in sort of life-debt to each other. To semi-quote F. Scott Fitzgerald's words: they understand each other just as far as they want to be understood, they believe in each other just as one would like to believe in himself… maybe even more.

Seeing it from a totally different perspective now, even The Blind Banker becomes a great episode (read here why) and the taxi driver's *cough* lame *cough* modus operandi to murder people suddenly has redeeming quality. The whole final showdown between him and Sherlock was to show how close Sherlock had come to being self-destructive if only John Watson hadn't come to his life. While I'm busy nitpicking the plausibility of every case presented in the show, the show actually offers a whole different side to it, which is the dynamic between Sherlock Holmes and John Watson.

♣ Sam Raimi: the Creative and the Visionary

"My aspiration is to tell entertaining stories through the medium of film, stories that are as visually exciting as possible and that hopefully will create an experience that is uplifting for the audience."

If you are a horror movie freak, you might have known him from the classic Evil Dead series. If you are a superhero fanboy, you might have known him from the blockbuster Spider-Man trilogy. Being a little bit of both, I can't help but notice those brilliant creations of his. It is no wonder that his IMDb page labels him as "one of Hollywood's most creative, exciting and intelligent filmmakers".

The Action of "Get Involved!"

Hello happy people!

New week has come. Love whole week like you love every end of the week. My exams will finish this tuesday, but I'm not gonna breathe free. Soon after my exams done, I will focus on my assignment that has deadline this week. I have been working for one or two week but now I'm stuck (no, I'm not talking about Lindsay Lohan' single). It's so difficult to find datas which are related.

Anyway, do you remember this? My friend Redita has planted some melon. Here is the picture. She told me yesterday that she actually has posted the pictures on her Tumblr but something happened so the pictures don't show. Good job, Dita!

Mindbloom » Grow the Life You Want

Another suddenly-find, this is an unique thing to hear. Have you ever heard mindbloom? I cannot explain more since I haven’t tried it yet (oops!). But while I’m composing this post, I open another tab to open Mindbloom. Meanwhile, you may read what Mindbloom is from MaryJanes and Galoshes. Enjoy!

I think most of us find that we get more things done when someone is holding us accountable.  It's nice to have a buddy who encourages us, or maybe even has the same goals for themselves, but that's not always an option.  I find that I'm usually more dedicated to the goal than my buddy, so when they give up it takes some wind out of my sails and I putter out too.

I was recently introduced to a new site called Mindbloom.  It's free and has become my perfect buddy! Of course it takes a little more self accountability because if I kill my tree (you'll know what I'm talking about in a minute) no one knows but me.  But if your ready to get yourself in order, in any aspect of your life, I encourage you to check out what Mindbloom creators are calling a "social game".  ( By the way, if you do have an actually buddy, you two can play Mindbloom together and see each others progress!)  So meet my buddy.

Your buddy comes in tree form! This was my tree on the very first day right after I registered.  See how the leaves are different shades of green? The brighter the leaves, the better your doing in that area of your life.  Here's an introduction of how Mindbloom works.

When you set up your account you are given several areas of life to choose from.  Some of the areas include healthy, creativity, career, and relationships.  You choose three you would like to concentrate on to start with then rate how much attention you currently give these areas (this determines what color your leaf starts out at).

So now you have a little tree that's ready to grow! Each leaf when clicked on shows you the area you have chosen to concentrate on with goals you can set for yourself.  If you complete these tasks you get points and your leaf gets greener! As your points accumulate your tree moves to bigger and better locations (levels).

There are other ways to accumulate points like inviting a friend to join you with their own tree (you can even see each others trees!), changing the motivational images inside your leaves, journaling,  and just visiting your tree! You need your points in order to set your goals.  When you accomplish a goal you get more points back! When you start to get the hang of things you can add leaves to your three branches.  This means you can add an area of concentration to the area you have decided to pay attention to.  Clear as mud to read I'm sure, but if I'm concentrating on creativity, that's my main branch and my goals have to do with creativity in general.  When I add a leaf to that branch I choose an area of creativity to focus on, I chose "Dream".  They provide all the choices so you have guidance but you are also given the option to add your own custom settings if you choose.

If this sounds like the motivation you need you will have no problem getting started with the walk through they give when you start.  So I won't give you a full run down on directions here, but I will tell you what I'm finding so fun about playing.

  • You can connect it to your facebook account and choose to share your accomplishments if your one of those competitive facebook game players!
  • You have the support of a buddy while still keeping your goals private.
  • The point system prevents you from biting off more than you can chew.  I'm one to set a really big goal and jump in the deep end only to find myself overwhelmed.  The way this "game" is set up it forces you to take baby steps first.  Trust me, it won't take long for you to add plenty of daily tasks for yourself!
  • Relaxing music plays as your visiting your tree, the music switches up as you gain levels.  I typically play on mute because there is enough noise in my house as it is! But for those of you who like the music it's nice and relaxing.
  • It reminds you to take relaxing breaths! Every time something takes a second or two to load it tells you to "use this time to take a relaxing breath".  Kind of hard not to when it does that! It's a great reminder to slow down from time to time and not be in such a rush.
  • Kill your tree? Or maybe you just decided you would like to concentrate on a different area of your life.  You can start new trees or prune branches and leaves to fit your goals.

So I've been playing for about 3 weeks now.  I just added my fourth branch and am currently located in the mountains.

That one little green leaf to the right is a friend who I invited and has not yet set up her tree.  The brown ones are trees waiting for you to come water before they die! LOL.  You can see I've added a few new goals with extra leaves and even added a fourth branch which meant a new topic.  There are features I still have to work to unlock.  If you want to come keep my tree company let me know and I'll send you an invite to join my forest!  Remember, it's FREE! And I could use the company :)

Hello happy people!

I'm sure you will be glad to participate something like this. Now you have one from many chances to make it happen. What's the news?

A few days ago, I read my friend tweet ang I got excited. My friend, Redita, will turn to seventeen this April. She will celebrate it with no party, but with something good like: plant trees. You don't believe? Read this message from Redita:

"Hey yall!!!! Maybe some of you already knew my 17 Bday Project (if you’re following me on twitter) I’m going to plant one tree for a new follower on twitter (@ReditaRatliff). I started this on 3/13 & will end on 4/15. I don't wanna make a huge party or something but I wanna give back to the community, environment for my birthday. This 'one tree, one follower' is one of my plan! So far I’ve gained 22 new followers & I’ve already planted 22 seeds! I’m not looking for followers but this idea really came from my heart. I wanna inspire people like Oprah & Adam Lambert do (yes I’m their huge fan). Beside this project, I’m planing to recycle. I’m going to give my old stuffs to people who need it also charity in cash. If you wanna inspire people, please reblog this! Spread the message! Let’s start inspiring people! And you know what, for every note I get from this post I’ll donate Rp 1.000,- for a temple here. So what are you waiting for?? REBLOG!! xoxo - Redita (@ReditaRatliff) :D"

I think her explanation is clear enough. Do you need more? Here are the points:
1. She will plant a tree for every new follower to celebrate her birthday.
2. You guys have a mont to participate. It's started from March 13rd until April 15th.
3. Simply click the follow button and you will donate a tree for Mother Earth.
4. And if you have Tumblr, you may reblog Redita post.

Last but not least, like what she has said, "What are you waiting for?". Follow her on Twitter right now.

Feed Me With Fans and Wall Only

Tertarik menghidupi Meet Eater? Kunjungi Facebook Meet Eater di sini, kirim wall, dan nanti kamu akan menerima wall balasan dari Meet Eater sendiri. Tak percaya?
